Dark Mode Design, Aluminum Xmas Trees, and Altering Human DNA

Hello friends!

Here are a few cool things that caught my attention this week.

Marketing Design for Dark Mode

A friend reached out after I sent the first edition of Chirps. Some of my design elements weren't translating well in Dark Mode. I made some changes, with the help of The Ultimate Guide to Dark Mode for Email Marketers from Litmus.

Let me know if this version looks OK in your inbox (:

Meet Wendy Downs, Founder of Moop Shop

I ran into my friend Wendy on a bike ride this weekend. She was also out on a bike ride, which is one of the reasons why I love her so much. Wendy is the founder and CEO of Moop Shop.

Moop makes the most amazing water-resistant, canvas bags. The Paperback and The Tiny Fanny Pack are my two personal faves.

Grab a holiday gift for someone you love while supporting this amazing, Pittsburgh-based, female founder!

The Aluminum Christmas Tree

Last year, I made the mistake of getting my first real Christmas tree. Never again. This year, since I was going fake, I decided to go super fake and get a silver tree. This led me to research the history of the aluminum Christmas tree. Why did Americans get so into those trees?!?

Fun fact: The aluminum Christmas tree was used as a symbol of the over-commercialization of Christmas in the 1965 Peanuts holiday special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. After the special aired, sales of aluminum trees dropped significantly, and eventually, they fell out of fashion.

Human Nature on Netflix

We can now alter our DNA. But should we? This is the question that is asked in Human Nature, a Netflix documentary that focuses on CRISPR technology, which can edit genes, giving people the ability to change human, animal, and plant life.

Give it a watch. I promise your jaw will drop.

Delivering Happiness

I read Tony Hsieh's book Delivering Happiness in 2010. It changed the way I ran my business, approached my personal life, and is currently shaping what I'm choosing to do in 2021 (details to come). I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes:

“Just because you can’t measure the ROI of something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. What’s the ROI of hugging your mom?”

Rest in Peace, Tony.

If you’re seeing Chirps for the first time, you can read previous editions and subscribe here.

Until next time ✌️
